Coaching for the work that takes everything you have.

1:1 professional coaching for humanitarians and people operating in high-pressure environments, who are ready to work with someone who’s been there.

This is coaching. Not therapy, not consulting, not advice.

Coaching is a forward-focused partnership. We work on where you are, where you want to go, and what’s getting in the way through your own thinking, with my support.

What makes this different: I’ve spent over eight years working alongside humanitarians in challenging situations. You won’t spend our sessions explaining your world, justifying the pressure, or translating what it means to be responsible for people in a crisis.

That’s not a small thing. Most coaches can’t say that.

Who I work with

Humanitarians and aid workers

Operating in complex environments, managing teams under pressure, or navigating the particular exhaustion that comes from caring deeply about work that never feels finished.

Expats and cross-cultural leaders

Relocated, adapting, or leading across cultures? You might be carrying the weight of professional responsibility while personally navigating unfamiliar ground.

High-performing professionals

This is for public sector and professional services professionals who operate at a high level. You might need a dedicated thinking partner, not a cheerleader.

What we work on together

The decisions you’re carrying. The next move you can’t quite see clearly. The way you’re showing up under pressure and whether it’s sustainable. Goals, leadership, transitions, communication, and the harder questions about what you actually want from your work and your life.

Coaching sessions are structured and purposeful. Most engagements run for six months, with twice-monthly sessions and email support in between. Long enough to do real work. Focused enough to stay useful.

I was going through a rough patch and Betsy provided a secure environment to open up. Her questions helped me get motivated.

I revised my CV, went through two interviews, and secured a new role. A significant positive change.

I’m incredibly grateful.

Thank you, Betsy!

My Clients Often Ask

What's the difference between coaching and therapy?

Therapy is licensed clinical work focused on mental health, healing, and the past. Coaching is a forward-focused partnership. We work on goals, decisions, and how you want to operate. The two can complement each other. I’ll always refer when therapy is what someone needs.

How do I know if coaching is right for me?

If you’re capable and motivated but feeling stuck, unclear, or like you’re operating below what you know you can do, coaching is usually a fit. The discovery call is 30 minutes, no pitch, and we both get to decide whether working together makes sense.

I've already tried rest, leave, an R&R. What does coaching do that time off doesn't?

Rest treats the tiredness.

It doesn’t touch the reasons you’re depleted faster than you can recover, because the load never lets up. Working late, working over the weekend, sleeping with your phone, you never actually stop.

That’s why the relief fades within a week of being back. Coaching works on the part rest can’t reach: how you’re carrying the work, what you’re absorbing that isn’t yours to absorb, and where your capacity is leaking. Time off refills the tank; this looks at why the tank keeps emptying.

Burnout isn’t only in your head, functional-movement works with what chronic stress does to the body, which, in my opinion rest alone cannot reset.

Where do your clients reside?

Most of my clients are in different time zones than I am. I’m based in Tokyo but coach virtually worldwide and travel for in-person engagements.

What are your qualifications?

ICF accredited coach (International Coaching Federation, the global standard for professional coaching). E-RYT 500 (Yoga Alliance senior credential). Mental Health First Aider (Mental Health First Aid England). Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Duke University. Over ten years working in the humanitarian sector.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations need 24 hours notice. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are charged the full session rate.

Bring me the real question. I'll bring the space to work it out.

A free 30-minute discovery call. No pitch. We talk about what you’re navigating, you ask whatever you want, and we both decide whether continuing makes sense.
